There’s no shortage of screen mirroring tools out there, but SCRCPY has earned its popularity for a few solid reasons:

- It’s lightweight and starts up fast
- It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux without fuss
- Latency stays low, even under load
- You get proper keyboard and mouse support
The big difference between SCRCPY and most wireless casting apps is that it talks to your phone directly over ADB.
That direct connection is why it feels so much snappier than the alternatives.
Make Sure Your Setup Can Actually Handle It
First of all, you might want to check whether your computer meets the required hardware configuration.
Even with the best tweaking options, there will be no way around a poor configuration.
Your Android device needs:
- Android 5.0 or newer
- USB debugging turned on
- A decent USB-C cable (don’t cheap out here)
Your computer should ideally have:

Best SCRCPY Settings for Gaming
Once your setup checks out, here’s where the real gains come from.
1. Lower the Display Resolution
This is definitely one of the key aspects that you could consider. Fewer pixels equal less load for your CPU and thus reduce latency.
scrcpy --max-size 1280
If your PC is on the weaker side, go even lower:
scrcpy --max-size 1024
You would assume that it will make things look worse, but in reality, most people don’t really mind the quality loss as they experience significant improvements in terms of smoothness.
2. Increase the Video Bitrate
It regulates how clear the picture is. The higher this value is, the better the picture quality.
At the same time, do not overdo it since the higher this value, the bigger the load on your computer will be.
scrcpy --video-bit-rate 20M
As a rough guide:
- 8M if your computer is struggling
- 12M for a decent middle ground
- 20M–30M if you’ve got the horsepower and a solid USB connection
In this case, increasing it too high will have the opposite effect – your device will start to lag.
3. Lock In a Stable Frame Rate
If your version supports it:
scrcpy --max-fps 60
Consistency of 60 FPS is better than having a frame rate that gets higher but always drops. Here, it is not about the numbers.
4. Turn the Phone Screen Off
Mirroring the game to two monitors is redundant; don’t waste your time. Disable the device screen when mirroring to save on energy and minimize the heat.
scrcpy --turn-screen-off
You will have an extra battery life for free, as well as some minimal latency benefits.
5. Go Fullscreen
Not much to explain here; fullscreen cuts distractions and just feels more immersive:
scrcpy --fullscreen
6. Reduce Rendering Load
Mirroring at full 1440p or 4K sounds nice in theory, but it puts unnecessary strain on your system.
Scaling the window down to something more modest often makes gameplay noticeably smoother a change a lot of people don’t think to try.
7. Use Your Phone’s Game Mode
Before you even open SCRCPY:
- Switch on Game Mode on your phone
- Turn off battery optimization for the game you’re playing
- Close background apps you don’t need
That’s basically all you need to give your phone some freedom of action.
Settings by PC Tier

People have different hardware configurations, so the following configuration should be followed depending on one’s hardware:
High-end PCs: Resolution at 1920×1080, bitrate between 20M and 30M, 60 FPS, USB connection, fullscreen. This combo gives you sharp visuals without noticeable delay.
Mid-range PCs: Resolution around 1280, bitrate between 12M and 16M, 60 FPS, USB if at all possible. This is the sweet spot for most people: a good balance between how it looks and how it performs.
Low-end PCs: Resolution at 1024, bitrate around 8M, windowed mode, and close everything else you don’t need running. Not glamorous, but it works.
Reduce Input Lag for Even More Responsiveness
If you’re the type who notices every millisecond of delay, a few extra habits can help:
- Stick to USB over Wi-Fi: This one change alone tends to make the biggest difference.
- Use a genuinely good cable: Cheap cables can cause weird instability you’d never think to blame on the cable itself. A certified USB 3.0 cable is worth the few extra dollars.
- Shut down anything hogging resources: extra Chrome tabs, video editing software, streaming tools, big downloads running in the background. All of it competes with SCRCPY for CPU and GPU time.
- Switch your power plan to High Performance: This keeps your CPU from throttling down when you least want it to.
- Keep your GPU drivers current: Video decoding performance often improves with newer driver releases, and it’s an easy thing to overlook.
Common Gaming Problems and Solutions
- Game feels laggy: Generally, it’s about Wi-Fi instead of USB, bitrate is too high, or the computer just cannot keep up. You should try reducing resolution and switching to the wired connection.
- Frame drops: Typically a CPU or GPU bottleneck, often made worse by background apps. Close what you don’t need and scale down the mirror resolution.
- Image looks rough:
Bump up --video-bit-rate. A higher number usually cleans things up considerably. - Controls feel delayed: USB connection, High Performance power plan, lower resolution, current drivers. Fixing even one of these can make a noticeable difference.
